An invitation to experience Umeälven from without and the possibility of mind drifting through its sounds.

While the mind flickers through derives and walks, people don’t fall and legs proceed with involuntary movement.

Conversely, for the majority of the people, swimming isn't effortless.

Many things keep the brain occupied: style, constant motion, fatigue, breathing pattern, counting laps, proximity to other swimmers to avoid a collision.

Keeping track of all of these factors leave little space for the outside of the pool and mind drifting in general.

For some people swimming relaxes, to others it enhances concentration, others experience a boost of distraction; this divergence is the core of Stream of Consciousness’ invitation, taking the river out of its bed and approach it from without not as an object but as a subject with agency in our brains.

3 waterproof headphones are available proposing an individual underwater listening to the tones of the river Ume. While some swimmers are listening underwater others talk and exchange their experience in humid conversations in the “marshlands” of the facility.
